Security whie using public wifi

I use public Wi-Fi almost exclusively. I realize the dangers in doing so. When I want to do any online banking or shopping, I enable Proton VPN (free version) and use Brave browser. My default is Edge browser, but I switch to Brave just for banking, feeling that it may be safer. I wouldn't mind using Edge and would do so if I can be convinced it is just as safe, I'm running Windows 11 on a fairly new HP laptop.

My question is: Do you think my Brave/VPN or edge/VPN combination provides...
