Strange Problem With Copy

I am trying to recover some data from an old Windows system. Specifically the contents of the Windows\users\Public directory.

I tried the following:

C:\Temp>dir c:\windows.old\users\Public\*
Volume in drive C is Local Disk
Volume Serial Number is 36C9-2D4D

Directory of c:\windows.old\users\Public

11/06/2021 08:43 AM <DIR> ..
